Egyptian Satirist Bassem Youssef in Washington

Bassem Youssef’s “Democracy Handbook” Premieres Today  – watch his new online show and join us as he hosts MEI’s 70th Annual Banquet.

The Middle East Institute is pleased to host Egyptian satirist Dr. Bassem Youssef as master of ceremonies for our 70th Annual Banquet and Conference in November.
The comedian makes his U.S. debut today with the launch of a digital web series, Democracy Handbook, on FUSION.net. The ten episodes follow Youssef as he travels across the United States, satirizing America’s democratic approach to free speech, guns, Islamaphobia, and the 2016 election.

“The fact that I come from the Middle East and was given the chance to comment on American political issues is an incredible opportunity and a great challenge,” says Youssef. “I hope to bring a different perspective to the table that is enlightening for Americans as well as people back in the Middle East.”
