Nominated as the Palestinian contender for the Academy Awards in 2015 (best foreign language film), Najwa Najjar’s second feature was made entirely in the West Bank and has a stellar cast including Egyptian actor Khaled Abol Naga and celebrated Algerian musician Souad Massi. Intensely gripping and packed with surprises, Eyes of a Thief is based in part on real-life events that took place in Silwan during the second intifada in 2002, and chronicles this story whilst leaping forward to current times to explore one man’s struggle to resist occupation, search for lost family and fight for forbidden love.
