Funky Khaleegy Dance Workshop with Andrea in Richmond

Khaleegy is a term used across the Middle East to describe anything deriving from the Gulf Region and there are versions of this stunning dance performed in Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates. and Saudi Arabia.

Traditionally performed behond closed doors and for women’s eyes only, Bellydancers across the world (and especially in Egypt) have been enamoured by the femininity and the grooviness of this stunning style for decades and it is not uncommon to see a few Khaleegy moves woven into a modern cabaret Bellydancer’s set.

The femininity comes from an emphasis on moves that draw attention to the dancers’ hair, neck, jewellery, and by only hinting at what is under the beautiful ‘thobe nashal’ traditional costume.

But aside from this feminine essence, there is a distinct groovy, funky, earthy feeling to Khaleegy and the technique and choreogrpahy that you will learn in this 2 hour workshop really draw on this element to give the dance a very modern twist. Packed full of combos you can apply to all your routines as well as authentic Khaleegy steps, come and spend 2 fun hours with Andrea, as she returns to Melbourne for this one-off weekend!
