Helm: Classical/Folkloric Music from the Arab World in Occidental

Occidental Center for the Arts presents Helm: Classical/Folkloric Music from Turkey and the Arab World. This accomplished troupe of multi-instrumentalists led by Ling Shien and Mark Bell play original compositions and traditional music from Turkey, the Middle East and the Arab world.

HELM, based in Marin County, features accomplished musicians Ling Shien on Arabic woodwinds, accordion and vocals with Mark Bell and David Two Hawk on percussion; with Larry Klein, David Glazier and Pat Bogel on oud, qanun, and violin. Playing original compositions that have become classics in the worlds of Tribal and Belly dance, as well as traditional music from Turkey and the Arab world, HELM has toured internationally and provided sound tracks for film and television and produced 8 plus albums.

Joining the multi-instrumental troupe will be dynamic dancers Kendra Chatfield (Tribal, Fusion, Oriental Bellydance plus modern hoop dance) and Lily Goessling.
