May 19, 2016 @ 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Event Navigation
Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies are rapidly growing fields of research reflected in many disciplines – from comparative literature, anthropology, music, feminist and gender studies, sociology, political science, and history, just to name a few. This is an invitation to share your work, academic and/or creative in nature, with peers, community members, and faculty.
The Middle East/South Asia Studies Program at UC Davis is inviting submissions for its third annual Undergraduate and Graduate Research Symposium. We are seeking papers, research, creative arts and other projects that focus on the Middle Eastern and South Asian world. The goal of this symposium is to create a space for the students of UC Davis and the nearby universities to engage in a symposium setting centered on their work.
We are looking for submissions that focus on the Middle Eastern and South Asian regions and cultures – including the diaspora. Submissions may take the form of research papers, posters, creative art, spoken word, film, etc. Papers and projects produced for courses are welcome. While most submissions will fall into one of these categories, new and innovative formats of expressing insights and research are also welcome to apply.
Presentations will be about 15 minutes including Q&A.
Refreshments throughout the entirety of the event will be provided.
Examples of previously-accepted submissions:
Family, Islam, and the State
Rank by Rifle: Class-consciousness in the Fiction of Ghassan Kanafani Muslim Women in Contemporary U.S. Media
Understanding Illness and Medicine in the Middle East
