Four poets from four countries read from their work, resisting prevalent stereotypes to give an insight into the complexity of identity.

  • Michael Mehrdad Zand Ahanchian is a writer, poet and editor born in Iran. He is currently  research student at Roehampton University and working on a new translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, called Ruby.
  • Yvonne Green lives in Hendon and Herzilia. Her third collectionAfter Semyon Izrailevich Lipkin was the Poetry Book Society’s Translation Choice for Winter in 2011. Her latest collectionHonoured was Poetry Book Society Recommended in 2015.
  • Shamim Azad has published novels, short stories and poetry in English and Bengali. She is a resident poet and storyteller with Apples & Snakes, and founder and chair of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro (World Literature Centre) London.
  • Amir Darwish is a British/Syrian poet who came to the UK as an asylum seeker during the Second Gulf War. His poetry has been published around the world and his collection Don’t Forget the Couscous was published in the UK in 2015.
