Integration and Musicality of the Body with Alessandro Bascioni – dancer/choreographer and teacher, based in London and Florence, has a background in Dance Therapy, African Dance and Hilal Dance. He founded the Iskandar Dance Company in 2005 with its launch at Tanzhaus nrw, tours and teaches throughout Europe successfully.

In this workshop Alessandro will work the core movements of Hilal Dance from traditional to modern bringing forth the power of integration and musicality of the body.

The workshop is aimed at anyone who is interested in dance in general, in Arab-Egyptian folklore, wishes to explore new body languages and new geometries of movement, or intends to amplify their own personal expressive and choreographic vocabulary.

Hilal is a contemporary Egyptian dance form that uses Egyptian music in all its forms to get the dancer moving. This dance form enhances body confidence allowing the dancer to feel grounded, improve posture, core strength, agility and grace. All dancers are welcome whatever your experience. We use breath-work and gentle yoga style warm-up to help us align, stretch and relax before we dance.

Hilal Dance is the art dance based on all the creative, theatrical and educational work of Suraya Hilal. Avant-garde artist, Hilal, drawing upon her Arab/Egyptian cultural roots and her extensive research, has brought a new culture to the contemporary dance world. Hilal Dance, conceived in 2000, is now established as a complete organic system which encompasses: Bodywork, a choreographic language and an african/arab aesthetic.
